  • BIO 451: General Ecology
    Taught Fall Semesters
    3 credits

A lecture/discussion course covering the interactions of plants and animals with their environments, and the theoretical underpinnings of evolutionary ecology and the ecology of organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems.
  • BIO 453: Ecology Field/Laboratory Course
    Taught Fall Semesters
    2 credits

Combines field trips to nearby natural areas with laboratory experiments to show how organisms interact with each other and their natural environment.

  • BIO 688: Readings in Biodiversity
Taught Spring Semesters (co-taught with Mark Ritchie of Biology)
    1 credit
A graduate seminar course examining the theoretical mechanisms controlling biodiversity in which different students will discuss papers each week. Topics covered include species interactions and co-existence, habitat fragmentation, disturbance, species-area relations and biogeographical patterns of species richness of organisms from microbes to large mammals.
