Soil microbial biodiversity

This project explores the effect of Yellowstone herbivores on the genetic diversity of soil bacteria in grasslands of Yellowstone National Park. It is work being conducted by a graduate student in the lab, Stacey Massulik, who is co-advised by Dr. Andria Costello, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Syracuse University. Stacey is amplifying the 16S ribosomal RNA gene and using RFLP and T-RFLP to examine the influence of herbivory on the diversity and composition of soil bacteria.
