Fall 2009 New Graduate Student Arrival Information
The first few weeks after your arrival will be filled with many activities and lots of information. You will be participating in the TA and departmental orientations, getting situated into your new home and familiar with your new surroundings, and meeting new people. We hope the following information will guide you through the process. Check out the About Syracuse & Central New York link to campus and local information and resources.

Before Arrival:

Activate your Netid and SU email account. You'll need your Netid & password to register for classes.

Teaching Assistants & SU Fellows:
Register for the Teaching Assistant Orientation Program. TA's are required to participate. SU Fellows are recommended to participate the first year.

Please email Evelyn Lott at (ealott@syr.edu) to to tell us your arrival date in Syracuse. International student TA's should plan to arrive no later than Wedensday, August 12. International Orientation begins on Thursday, August 13. The All TA Orientation beings on Thuesday, August 18.

On Arrival:

International Student Check In:

All international students must check in with the Lillian and Emanuel Slutzker Center for International Services (LESCIS) as soon as possible after entering the United States. The Slutzker Center is located at 310 Walnut Place and meets many of the needs of international students. Be sure to bring your documentation so they can prepare the I-9 information for payroll for you. They can be reached by e-mail at LESCIS@syr.edu or by telephone at 315-443-2457.

Department Check In:

Shortly after arrival, ALL new graduate students should come to the Biology Graduate Office located in room 114 in the Life Sciences Complex to see Evelyn Lott. You will be assigned a mailbox and have your photo taken for our department directory.

For US citizens and permanent residents, I-9 forms are to be completed at the Human Resources Satellite Office located at 210 Steele Hall.

Slutzker Center Mandatory Orientation session, 9 am - 11 am Room 107 Hall of Languages

International Teaching Assistant Orientation

Tuesday, August 18 - Wednesday, August 19
All University Teaching Assistant Orientation.

Monday, August 24:
Biology Department Orientation for All New Grads. Advising and Registration
10:00 am - 1:00, Room 106 Life Sciences Complex (LSC)

BIO 121/123 TA Trainin for new and returning Biology TA's will take place between Aug. 24 - Aug 28. Schedule will be posted soon.

Wednesday, August 26
Chemical Hygiene Training, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm, 132 Lyman Hall. Attendance is mandatory.

Friday, August 28
Department Luncheon, Noon, 106 Life Sciences Complex
Faculty, Staff, Grad Student are invited to attend. Meet new graduate students.

Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30
Complete registration of courses by midnight, Sun. Aug. 30.

Monday, August 31: First Day of Classes
