Sam McNaughton delivered a seminar "Can 'Basic' Research Contribute to Conservation Policy?" at Tennessee State University in Nashville on March 28. He also showed a DVD of field and lab research methods that was followed by discussion with graduate students. 

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
Kari Segraves has been honored with S.U.'s Francis McMillan Parks Women of Influence Award. Women of Influence Awards are presented to distinguished women who have demonstrated sincere efforts in advancing the issues of women and who have worked to enhance the quality of life and educational opportunities of Syracuse University students, faculty and staff.

AWARDS
Anamika Patel (Postdoc, Cosgrove), was awarded a travel fellowship for the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology meeting being held in San Diego in April. She will be presenting on her research entitled: Structural insights into the interaction between WDR5 and the Mixed Lineage Leukemia (MLL) Protein.

Craig Albertson is co-PI on an NIH grant that was recently funded to study Antarctic icefish.

Grad student Brad Arshinoff (Welch) was awarded a 3-year Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada Postgraduate Scholarship starting in September 2008.

UNDERGRADUATE NEWS
Tom Stewart
, junior, was awarded a prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship for the next academic year.

Danielle Houghton, junior, was awarded a Wise-Marcus Fifty Year Friendship Award from the honors program to support her capstone project.
