We conduct research on various problems in evolutionary ecology, ecological genetics and molecular evolution. Presently we are studying the genetics of egg-laying behaviour in natural populations of Drosophila. This work should help us understand how genetic variation is maintained in natural populations. We also investigate the role of "killer" yeasts in natural communities of wild yeasts. This work should help us determine how natural communities are organized under the influence of organisms that produce toxins. Most of our work on molecular evolution is based on statistical analysis of gene sequences in various species of microorganisms isolated from ancient glacial ice.
